Infotel plans 100 000 towers for 4G rollout
Broadband will set up more than 100 000 towers for its 4G operations in the next three years, BGR reports.
This news definitely comes as a shocker and may also disappoint a few telecoms tower companies including Anil Ambani's Reliance Infratel, which was hoping Infotel Broadband would use its passive infrastructure for its services.
According to a report published by the Economic Times, the company intends to launch its 4G services later this year or early next year, and if the target of setting up 100 000 towers is not achieved by that time, the company will take the remaining towers on rent from other firms. If required, it may consider Indus Towers, which owns around 110 000 telecoms towers.
The estimated outlay for the company's launch, which is expected later this year, has been doubled to $8 billion to $9 billion from the originally stated $4 billion in 2010, Stock Market Digital reveals.
