Ingran IT achieves Adaptec Platinum partner status for external storage

Johannesburg, 09 May 2005

Adaptec and distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) have awarded Ingran IT Adaptec Platinum partner status for external storage. This will allow the reseller to confidently design customised solutions for its customers, win new business and improve its support offering through the enhanced technical expertise of the organisation.

Says Mayur Nanalal, managing director at Ingran IT, a subsidiary of Ingran Africa: "As a storage focussed company that offers expertise, solutions and services around storage, thin-client technology and bandwidth optimisation, we have enjoyed a long standing relationship with Adaptec. We acknowledge the competitive advantage qualifying as a Platinum partner for external storage brings us. The additional skills and competencies certainly complement our offering and will benefit our customers."

In order to become an Adaptec Platinum partner for external storage, Ingran IT was required to complete technical certification, have a solid, stable track record and achieve sales figures that showed commitment to the brand.

Says Adaptec product manager at DCC, Cindy Sivan: "The certification requires additional skills and product knowledge criteria be met by the reseller, which in turn means DCC will have fewer support issues to deal with. It also instils DCC with the confidence that Ingran is able to offer the correct solution to support end users' goals and strategies.

"Many resellers do not realise the intricacies of storage solutions - an area where a 'box drop' is not sufficient. Highly skilled specialists are required to leverage the existing architecture and provide an integrated solution, rather than simply install a stand-alone point solution."

Nanalal agrees, explaining that storage relies on many systems -- from call centre environments to accounting systems and data warehouses - and that businesses need a stable storage architecture that complies with legislation and allows data to be retrieved when required.

He notes that companies are now also looking to including off-site backup. This applies especially to larger organisations with remote branches, and to companies in industries such as finance and healthcare that need to replicate business critical applications.

Nanalal concludes: "Ingran IT initially focussed on high availability and extended its focus to include storage. What has become apparent is the need for solutions that function in a heterogeneous environment, ensuring the client is not tied into one brand or product offering. Adaptec has allowed us to design and adapt solutions with open architectures with a platform that features flexible integration. This allows us to offer competitively priced solutions which enables the customer is able to make use of their existing equipment rather than taking a 'rip and replace' approach - a costly exercise."
