The InnJoo ONE smartphone hits the SA market later this month.

InnJoo Technology is bringing its flagship smartphone 'ONE' to the local market. The Dubai-based company officially launched the device in Johannesburg yesterday but consumers will have to wait a few weeks to get their hands on the ONE.

InnJoo MD Robert Liang says the company is excited to be entering the highly competitive South African market. The South African launch follows those in the Middle East and Nigeria.

The smartphones will only be available in SA in the fourth week of July through e-commerce platform takealot.com, with plans to expand sales to in-store retailers from August. InnJoo says it has kept its price point low by employing an innovative factory to consumer model, cutting out channel costs and primarily selling its products online.

InnJoo marketing director, Theo Singo, says after success selling its smartphones online in Nigeria, the company has big plans for South Africa and hopes to sell around 20 000 devices a month. Next on the list for expansion will be the rest of the Southern African Development Community region.

"We want to start by building the brand in South Africa. Once the brand is solid in South Africa, it is easy for other African countries to follow suit," says Singo.

Liang says the InnJoo ONE device includes its own proprietary , allowing consumers to "build their perfect phone by providing feedback via InnJoo's fast-growing social InnForum". It also comes with InnOS 1.0 and InnJoo's own apps, which are available at InnStore.

"InnCloud's active user base has reached 2.2 million, with up to 250 000 active users per week for InnBrowers and over two million downloads from InnStore," according to Liang.

Weighing 123g, the InnJoo ONE Smartphone is 6.9mm thick and has Dragontrail X Glass with anti-pressure ability on its 5-inch HD display. The ONE is available with 16GB on-board memory and can support a 64GB micro SD card for extra memory. The smartphone also has dual SIM card capabilities.

The ONE has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, with 88-degree wide-angle lens for the selfie enthusiast. Other camera features include continuous capture, HD video recording, facial recognition and face beauty optimisation mode.

Liang says noise suppression technology ensures sound quality through the smartphone's speakers. Dual microphones enable clarity in call quality and users will benefit from 20% higher volume compared to other receivers.

The device comes in two colours, black and gold, and will initially be sold on takealot.com at a price of R2 499.

The name InnJoo is a shortening of the phrase ' Journey', and the Dubai-born company hopes to replicate its success in its home market after becoming the fastest growing company providing smart devices and software services in the MEA region.
