Innovatek cooling products added to Synapsys stable

Innovatek appoints Synapsys to distribute top German water-cooling hardware for PCs.

Johannesburg, 16 Mar 2004

Building on its position as the country's leading supplier of advanced cooling solutions for PCs and servers, Synapsys has added the Innovatek range of PC water-cooling solutions to its stable.

The German manufacturer has appointed Synapsys as its sole distributor in SA and southern Africa.

"We're very impressed with the professionalism and quality of service provided by Synapsys, and are pleased to have them as a partner representing us in the South African market," says Richard Rapp, general manager of Innovatek OS GmbH.

"With the Innovatek range fleshing out our offerings, Synapsys is in a position to offer solutions across the spectrum of advanced cooling systems," says Arthur Williamson, managing director or Synapsys.

"Innovatek has one of the most comprehensive product lines in the industry, and those solutions are now available to users in SA."

Synapsys pioneered liquid and phase change cooling systems in the local market in 2003, and has rapidly established itself as the leading supplier to corporate, government and hobbyist users. Water-cooled PCs operate more reliably than conventional air-cooled systems, the company claims.

"Innovatek offer high performance water-cooling blocks for CPUs, graphics, chipset and hard drives, as well as a range of heat exchangers, pumps and accessories that add professional quality water-cooling to PCs and servers," Williamson says. "Uniquely, they also offer the industry's only passive radiators, so even radiator fans can be dispensed with to provide silent cooling."

Also available is an add-on external cooling unit that quickly connects to an existing PC to provide reliable water-cooling for the hottest components, the company says.

Separately, the company also announced the local availability of the new VapoChill LightSpeed phase change cooling unit from Asetek, as well as the Prometeia Mach II ST from nVentiv. Both Danish suppliers, who are fierce technology rivals, provide advanced cooling systems for the world's fastest PCs.

Phase change cooling technology - also used in the fastest mainframe servers and supercomputers - chills the PC's CPU to sub-zero temperatures, allowing much higher performance than is otherwise possible with conventional air or water cooling.

"Heat is often the source of many system woes. Current heatsink-and-fan coolers are far from efficient - and extremely noisy," says Arthur Williamson, Synapsys MD. "In fact, it's true to say that CPU makers actually underclock their CPUs in order to manage heat, and this means users can't exploit the full performance potential of the technology.

"Conventional air-cooling means there's a trade-off between performance, heat, noise and system reliability - with performance usually taking the back seat," Williamson says.

According to Williamson, water-cooling brings a whole new dimension to PC stability and performance. "Though the technology is very easy and relatively inexpensive to implement on a current or new PC, water-cooled PCs run more stably and reliably than air-cooled systems, especially in Africa's higher ambient temperatures."

Synapsys has positioned itself as the country's specialist distributor of advanced PC cooling solutions from a number of leading manufacturers, including Koolance, Asetek and nVentiv. It also distributes backup and system management software from US-based Acronis.
