Dell SA has announced availability of its latest Inspiron, a thin, affordable notebook that packs a number of features into 2.66kg.
According to Leigh Hancock, product marketing manager at Dell SA, the Inspiron 4100 is one of the first mainstream notebooks to support a high-resolution 14.1-inch Ultra XGA display and offer standard 16MB of ATI`s Mobility RADEON video graphic memory.
The new notebook is easily configurable and provides a variety of options. Customers can choose from two different display resolutions for the large, bright 14.1-inch viewing area, three hard drive sizes up to 30GB and four optical drives, including an 8X DVD / 4X CD-RW combination drive. Eight different QuickSnap colour inserts ranging from the new Burl Wood to Iridescent red or Black Leather, provide customers the ability to personalise the look of their notebook.
The Inspiron 4100 features the Intel Mobile Pentium III processor-M, in speeds of up to 1.2GHz combined with Intel`s 830 chipset, and can be configured with up to 1GB of PC 133 SDRAM. ATI`s Mobility Radeon with 4X AGP and 16MB of DDR memory deliver fast 2D and 3D graphics performance, as well as DVD playback performance. The new notebook also offers fully integrated communications with integrated networking, modem and/or optional internal TrueMobile 802.11 wireless connectivity.
The price of a wireless-ready Inspiron 4100 starts at R13 200, excluding VAT and delivery. It features a Mobile Intel Pentium III processor-M at 866GHz, 128MB 133MHz SDRAM, 14.1-inch SXGA+ display, ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chipset, 10GB hard disk drive, Dell`s DualPoint technology, 24X maximum CD-ROM drive, floppy diskette drive, Microsoft Windows Millennium and Microsoft Works Suite 2001, and 1-year limited warranty. With a Mobile Intel Pentium III processor-M at 1.2GHz, 256MB 133MHz SDRAM, 14.1-inch UXGA display, 30GB hard drive, 8X DVD drive, and 8-cell Lithium Ion "smart" battery the price is R20 240, excluding VAT and delivery.

The Inspiron 4100 also incorporates long life battery delivering over 3.5 hours, with an optional second battery to double the notebook battery life. Additionally, all Inspiron notebooks support Microsoft Windows XP.
