Intel boosts wireless speed

Johannesburg, 27 Jan 2004

Intel has introduced its PRO/ 2200BG connection, enabling both 802.11b and rapid 802.11g wireless capabilities using a communications and a radio chip.

"With support for open industry standards, the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG network connection offers more than three times higher performance than standalone 802.11b solutions," says Jim Johnson, Intel VP and GM of the Wireless Networking Group.

"The improved performance of 802.11g, combined with strong power management features, help deliver leading connectivity capabilities across a wide range of WiFi access points."

The 2200BG network connection is a wireless local area network solution that allows up to 54 million bits of data to be transferred per second. It is designed to maintain high throughput at longer ranges in office or home environments, along with efficient use of power to enable longer battery life.

"Standards-based solutions are critical to ensure WiFi-capable devices work across a variety of networks, ensuring a high quality, consistent user experience," says Johnson.
