Intel Corporation today announced three new, low-cost print servers including the newest member of the Intel InBusiness line of network appliances, the Intel InBusiness Print Station, the company`s first print server designed specifically for the small business. Also being announced are two new Intel NetportExpress 10 Print Servers for 10 megabit-per-second networks, a single-port version for standalone printers and a 3-port version for connection with multiple printers. In addition, the company has introduced Linux and NetWare 5.0 operating system (OS) support across its entire Intel NetportExpress 10 Mbps and 10/100 Mbps printer server family.
"Intel is a leader in providing easy-to-use, high performance printing solutions," stated Jacques van Schalk Wyk, Networking Manager, Intel Corporation South Africa. "For the first time, small business customers have a print sharing product specifically designed to provide the simple, flexible and affordable solution they require. For larger networks the new low-cost, full-featured 10Mbs print servers give network administrators a great value solution with full management capability and extensive operating system support." Increasing Productivity for Small Business
Sharing printers can save both time and money for the small business. Using a print server reduces the need for multiple printers and allows a more efficient use of PC resources. The print server offloads the printing jobs from a particular PC allowing users to get on with more productive work. The Intel InBusiness Print Station can connect up to two printers to the network and will operate at 10 or 100Mbs meaning that business considering upgrading their networks to Fast Ethernet don`t need to worry about upgrading their print server as well.
Installation in a matter of minutes
The Intel InBusiness Print Station offers small business customers the simplest installation available on the market today. With built-in wizards, based on the familiar Windows interface, users are able to connect multiple PCs and begin sharing printers in a matter of minutes. "The InBusiness Print Station was the easiest print server I`ve ever installed," said Eric Storjohan of American Qualified Plans, a Pleasanton, Calif.-based retirement and pension investment administration firm. "If only my video recorder was this simple to operate!" All of Intel`s InBusiness products have been designed to be simple to install for the small business user. Similar technology is also found in the Intel NetportExpress 10 Print Servers and the Intel NetportExpress 10/100 Print Servers, which have been rated by an independent study to be the easiest to install and manage.
Part of an expanding family of Network Appliances
The Intel InBusiness Print Station is the newest addition to an award-winning family of network appliance products from Intel, including Intel InBusiness eMail Station and Intel InBusiness Internet Station. Network appliances are designed to perform critical business functions and provide benefits such as easy installation, enhanced performance, and minimal network disruption while overcoming the small business challenges of limited budget, resources, personnel and technical expertise. Dataquest`s senior industry analyst, James Staten, projects the network appliance market segment will grow to more than $16 billion in revenue by 2002, up from $2 billion in 1998.
First to announce printing support for Linux in a Network Print Server
Intel NetportExpress Print Servers now offer NetWare 5.0 and Linux printing support. "With its tremendous growth in 1998, Linux represents a significant operating system alternative in UNIX environments," said Johnson. "Intel is the first print server vendor to announce Linux printing support in a network print server. Intel`s customers will now benefit from network print support of the latest, most popular OS environments."
