Intel unveils cheap SSD storage
Intel is stirring up the marketplace for digital storage with the roll-out of a lower-cost, solid-state drive (SSD) aimed at the value segment of netbooks and laptops, reports Tech News World.
The Intel X25 Value SATA SSD has 40GB of storage and is priced at $125, adding to the giant chip maker's storage line of 80GB and 160GB SSDs.
Michael Yang, an analyst with iSuppli, says this move will drive other manufacturers to introduce similar products at reduced prices.
EMC drives MS Exchange protection
EMC has introduced disaster recovery and networked storage technologies for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, states Information Week.
EMC introduced a replication manager which creates, mounts, and restores application-consistent point-in-time copies of databases residing on EMC storage arrays.
Microsoft released Exchange Server 2010 last year November, claiming the software could cost as much as 70% less than previous versions in terms of total cost of ownership
Xbox 360 to get USB storage
Xbox 360 will receive USB mass storage device support as part of its system update, says Xboxic.
According to an Xbox 360 statement, the demand for high-capacity USB mass storage devices has driven the need for an update will allow consumers to save and load game data from a USB device.
The update is expected to be rolled out later this year and will allow any USB mass media memory up to 16GB to be used in exactly the same way as a memory card or Microsoft HDD.
