Intel unveils new logo, products

Johannesburg, 01 Feb 2006

Yesterday Intel unveiled its updated logo and two consumer platforms, both sporting dual core technology.

This first of these is the Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology, which the vendor said is the most advanced Intel platform for mobile computing, while the Intel Viiv is designed for the home experience.

This is the company`s first mobile dual-core processor built on its next generation 65-nanometer process technology, and concurrently executes multiple threads while running multiple applications, Intel said.

"Intel Centrino Duo mobile-technology-based laptops deliver a mobile dual-core design with enhanced high-definition capabilities for a personalised entertainment experience, which supports improved battery life for the on-the-go mobile lifestyle and expanded connectivity options for greater flexibility to communicate," said regional marketing manager for Intel South and sub-Saharan Africa Delia Griggs at the launch.

"Intel Viiv technology offers this same entertainment experience, but it specifically designed for the shared home experience."

Viiv technology is based on dual core 64-bit processing power, which works with Intel drivers for vivid graphics, smooth video playback and support for up to 7.1 channel surround sound, Intel said.

The company announced that PCs based on Viiv technology will be powered by a suite of Intel technology and surrounded by a number of verified consumer electronics devices, and online services (including movies, music, photos and games).

To showcase the power of these new product platforms, a number of industry players put on a display of the dual core-based systems at last night`s function in Johannesburg. These included Acer, Mecer, Proline, Sony, Lenovo, Esquire and Sahara.

Intel`s updated logo, which reads "Intel leap ahead", reflects the technological leap taken by the company with the release of its new products, Griggs explained.
