Intel unveils self-service kiosk

Intel has unveiled a multi-touch screen-based kiosk that allows consumers to get information about products, shop around and ultimately purchase items directly from the self-service terminal, says TG Daily.

It is designed to reduce the retailer cost of maintaining a storefront. Users will see animations and details, while the bulk of inventory remains in the back without fancy storefronts.

Unveiled at the National Federation Convention (NRF), Intel calls it a proof-of-concept point-of-sale demo, part of their Wipro effort. It employs a 45nm Core 2 Duo processor with Intel's vPro and Active Management technologies, an interesting stylish design incorporating either a single multi-touch-screen on one side, or a dual multi-touch-screen on the other.

Dealer Specialties offers self-service tool

Dealer Specialties, a division of Dominion Enterprises, announced enhancements to its inventory management tools to support dealers who prefer on-demand online inventory updates, according to PRWeb.

The Dealer Specialties self-serve tool, available with its Platinum package, enables dealers to collect their own , upload their own photos, have full VIN decoding for complete and accurate online listing and label details, order and print window labels, change pricing with real-time impact, use the pricing analytics tool, add marketing messages and more.

"What's invaluable for the dealer is if they get behind on data and photo collection, Dealer Specialties can provide a full-service 'catch-up' to keep inventory current. We believe this 'catch-up' offering makes our self-serve product offering most unique in the marketplace," says Al Hess, GM of Dealer Specialties.

ITG, SirsiDynix

The Integrated Technology Group (ITG), a division of Vernon Library Supplies, has partnered with SirsiDynix to install radio frequency identification (RFID) technology at the Albany Public Library, in Oregon, and the Jessamine County Public Library, in Kentucky, reports dBusiness News.

"ITG and SirsiDynix have worked closely to create custom solutions for both the Albany Public Library and the Jessamine County Public Library,” said Ken Evans, VP of sales for ITG. “The new RFID systems will provide each library with the ability to increase staff efficiency and improve patron services.”

The Albany Public Library is implementing Apex XpressCheck patron self-service kiosks, Apex RFID security pedestals and a seven-bin Vista FullSort automated material handling system from ITG. All of these work in conjunction with the integrated library system from SirsiDynix.
