Intel updates Core vPro
The updated Core vPro processor family brings the performance of Intel's Sandy Bridge architecture to business desktops and laptops, with new systems based on Core i5 and Core i7 chips promised from Dell, HP, Fujitsu and Lenovo within a few weeks.
According to Channel Insider, this strategy comes as sales of smartphones and tablets skyrocket, and increasingly become tools used in the enterprise. In addition, some research firms like Gartner predict that tablet sales will cut into the PC business.
However, others, including Canalsys, are grouping tablets with PCs when considering its computer numbers.
The company has not provided any benchmarks or statistics comparing the new Core vPro processors and their immediate predecessors, says ZDNet.
Meanwhile, it has stated that the business application productivity figures come from Sysmark 2007 testing, the multi-tasking claims from PCMark Vantage testing and the encryption stats from SiSoftware Sandra 2010 testing.
