Intentia, a global enterprise solutions provider for the manufacturing, distribution and maintenance industries, announced today that it has partnered with Idion Technology Holdings` subsidiary Vision Solutions, a leading supplier of IBM eServer high-availability solutions, to provide additional data archiving functionality to the Intentia Application Suite. This partnership allows businesses to maximise the efficiency of managing and storing enterprise application data. Vision Solutions has customised its OS Data Manager, a user based tool that automates the modelling, testing, purging and archiving activities for IBM iSeries application environments, with templates designed for Intentia`s Application Suite. This allows customers to cost-effectively manage enterprise information from creation through deletion based on its value and importance over time.
"OS Data Manager has proved to be very useful in combination with archiving functions in Intentia`s solution," said Lars Wettergren, product director of technology and platforms, Intentia International. Many businesses are carrying a minimum of five years of data and some are dealing with as much as 15 years of data. The proportion of occasionally accessed historical data over the actual operational data represents well over 50% of the data and in some cases much more. The impact this has on application performance is sometimes significant.
The partnership between Intentia and Vision Solutions was a logical progression to fulfil client needs. The companies currently share approximately 100 clients including Hagemeyer and Newell Rubbermaid.
"Archiving of historical data has been on our project list for several years," said Neil Trigg, Director Applications Development at Newell Rubbermaid. "The availability of the integrated combination of Data Manager with Intentia`s applications gave us all the reason for this investment. Data Manager`s ability to archive financial data from Intentia`s application is of real benefit to our company and provides us with full confidence."
In addition, Intentia customers can speed up migrations to Intentia`s Java Application Suite with OS Data Manager by reducing the volume of the database and archiving outdated data. As a complimentary solution to Intentia`s archiving functionality, OS Data Manager requires minimal IT skills and overall management, and runs while the system is active, differentiating itself from similar systems that can require shutdown of the application.
"Customers today are looking to enhance the efficiency of their storage infrastructure while addressing the need for service levels and data security," said Henry Martinez, CTO, Vision Solutions. "With our partnership, we can now deliver a solution that enables customers to maximise the efficiency of managing and storing enterprise application data while minimising costs."
"Collaborating with business partners like Intentia and Vision Solutions is the core element of our partner ecosystem strategy," said Buell Duncan, general manager, ISV and Developer Relations at IBM. "Both companies have embraced IBM`s open standards technology that enables our joint customers to transform to on demand businesses allowing them to archive and retrieve critical data in a secure environment."
