Interconnect sets a quality benchmark with in-house RCDDs

Johannesburg, 10 Feb 2005

Nico van der Westhuizen and Edward Coetzee, from Interconnect Systems in Centurion and Cape Town respectively, recently joined the ranks of the information transport systems industry elite when they passed the internationally recognised BICSI RCDD examination.

The RCDD - Registered Communications Distribution Designer - qualification is based on international standards such as EIA/TIA, Cenelec, CSA, IEEE and UL.

Essentially RCDDs are first class infrastructure designers that are globally aware and specify standards-based rather than vendor-based designs. Passing the RCDD exam is not easy and not many RCDD candidates succeed. In fact, not many even qualify to take the exam, which requires candidates to have two years practical experience and both professional and personal references.

The RCDD course is an intensive six-day course that covers 20 core subjects such as:

* Project management
* Telecommunications administration
* Networking fundamentals
* Designing cabling distribution systems
* Standards
* Electromagnetic compatibility
* Grounding and bonding
* Fire stopping, and more

RCDD candidates, in addition to having to achieve an exam score of at least 78% in order to pass, must also obtain 45 "continuing education credits" (CECs) every three years at BICSI-approved technical seminars and courses, in order to maintain their RCDD status.

That`s what sets a BICSI RCDD apart from the rest and that`s how an RCDD can give you the quality assurance that you need. In fact, many end-users and consultants around the world recognise the RCDD qualification as a benchmark of quality and demand it in their tender specifications.
