International CobiT experts at ISACA SA CobiT user convention, conference

Johannesburg, 02 May 2007

The South African Chapter of ISACA will hold its annual conference from 10 to 12 September 2007 and it promises to be the biggest IT governance, IT security and IT assurance event yet held by ISACA SA, says Max Blecher, the President of the local chapter.

"Over the past few years, the South African chapter has increasingly been contributing to the development of the ISACA and IT Governance Institute (ITGI) body of knowledge. We are now recognised as one of the five international CobiT (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology) development groups and this has lead to an increased investment in South Africa by ISACA and the ITGI," said Blecher.

"It gives me great pleasure to announce that the CobiT Steering Committee will be meeting in South Africa for the first time ever. This will bring eight to ten global CobiT experts to our shores, in support of our CobiT User Convention and Conference."

CobiT User Convention

The CobiT User Convention is a two-day educational event that is exclusively designed for users of CobiT. This year will be the second time that the event is held on the African continent. The previous CobiT User Convention was held in Cape Town, in February 2005, where it attracted more than 160 delegates including a number from Central and Southern Africa.

"CobiT has undergone two version upgrades since the Cape Town Convention, one major and one minor, and this has resulted in significant enhancements to its content and structure," said Blecher.

This year's event will feature case studies and facilitated discussion groups that will address how CobiT is employed from governance, security and assurance perspectives. Senior members from the CobiT Steering Committee will join a number of CobiT users to present implementation strategies, lead discussions, answer questions and provide CobiT updates.

Participants will experience how organisations are implementing and using CobiT. In addition, CobiT users will be able to bring their problems for solution in a facilitated environment, while others can share their solutions to common or unique implementation problems resulting in lessons learned and actions for improvement.

Conference programme and training courses

In addition to the two-day CobiT User Convention, there will be a one-day conference programme covering the broader aspects of IT governance, IT security and IT assurance. Here, leading international and local presenters will provide key insights and share their experiences on a number of topics that are relevant to today's information technology professionals.

ISACA will also provide post-conference training courses, including the newly developed classroom version of the official ISACA CobiT Foundation Course.
