Domain registration and web-site hosting specialist Internet Online has been selected to help gain exposure for the Southern African Business Network (SABN) by hosting the network`s online information and membership portal.
Cape-based Internet Online, run by directors Amir Sachs and Julian Bradley Sher, has provided the skills, capability and infrastructure to help create an online portal which details all members and other relevant information pertaining to one of the region`s largest trade and industry initiatives.
The SABN portal, which is to be launched on 21 May, is a joint initiative undertaken by the Association of the SADC Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCCI) and the International Trade Centre in Switzerland. The online initiative is seen as important extension of the overall regional SABN project.
www.sabusinet.net serves as a permanent networking facility between the trade support institutions in Southern Africa, as well as a means of providing commercial information for would-be investors in the region. As a predominantly trade and industry initiative, the portal is expected to help identify sub-regional business opportunities and promote market development activities.
Visitors are encouraged to browse the site, but only registered members have access to the `members area`. Through a Login ID and password, registered members are able to add, remove or edit documents or data.
Laurent Chambost, a Swiss-based consultant on e-Applications for Trade Promotion, initially approached Internet Online with the idea of helping to establish the online initiative.
Amir Sachs says that through the successful hosting of a complex and technical portal, Internet Online has made the most of a unique opportunity to demonstrate its technical ability and value-added service level.
"We are happy to have been selected for this project. The complex and technical nature of this site - including built-in webmaster, member and public functionalities - demanded a high level of capability, infrastructure and efficiency. I am confident that our reputation for quick response time, technical know-how and cost-efficient service counted in our favour. This site is expected to attract a high volume of traffic and we have the skills and infrastructure in place to handle this."
The Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry will officially launch the portal and introduce it to members of the association later this month. According to Ranjana Roy Seeburn, Head of the Information Department, Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Internet Online`s contribution to the project is both appreciated and very significant.
"The Association of SADC Chambers of Commerce & Industry (ASCCI), the body responsible for the portal and its hosting, will hold its annual general meeting on 21 May. We expect a strong reaction to this launch, and we are appreciative of the effort that Internet Online has made in helping to establish the portal," says Roy Seeburn.
