SA`s largest commercial Internet service provider, Internet Solutions, has extended its Backup Solutions product suite to include industry-leading data backup, recovery and remote access for servers and databases.
Previously offering this service for desktops and laptops, Backup Solutions Server Edition enables customers to leverage their existing connectivity and hardware investment to better protect corporate information in a distributed environment. At the same time the service reduces support costs and relieves the burden of backup and recovery on IT personnel.
Partnering with data protection expert Attix5, IS` Backup Solutions Server Edition makes use of a client-server solution to automatically filter, select and copy critical data to a remote data server located at IS` DMZ Data Centre in Rosebank.
The Server Edition has been specifically designed for use with industry-leading database applications as well as including Open File Management for the backup of locked files. Native APIs available include:
. Microsoft Exchange Server;
. Microsoft SQL Server;
. Lotus Notes Domino;
. Groupwise; and
. Oracle, etc.
The additional service has been welcomed by customers, who have become increasingly aware of the risks associated with computer viruses, hackers, theft and equipment failure. "It is critical for our customers to keep business-critical data safe and available, "says Leon Labuschagne, IS Backup Solutions General Manager.
Developed locally by Attix5 to international specifications, the cost of the offer is reduced dramatically compared to international products. "With the cost of disk space reducing, coupled with the perceived unreliability of tape as an immediate backup and retrieval medium, Attix5 developed this disk-to-disk-to-tape solution to provide customers with the best of both worlds. Immediate online backup and retrieval of current critical data with optional migration to tape of archived data," says Gary Novitzkas, Attix5 Sales and Product Marketing Director.
Backup Solutions` Server Edition starts from as little as R480 per server monthly, for a 12-month contract.
