The policy announcement by minister of communications, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, has been positively received by Internet Solutions (IS), SA`s leading network service provider.
"Internet Solutions (IS) and Dimension Data welcome the minister`s announcement, which is the most significant since the passing into law of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. We believe it is very likely to have positive ramifications for business and the general economy of the country," says New Business Director at IS, Hillel Shrock.
The most significant aspect of the announcement is that from 1 February 2005, business and consumers will be able to select their telecommunications services - telephone, video, data and Internet - from more than one supplier.
Shrock says: ""The artificial regulatory inhibitors have now been eliminated, and regulation is finally catching up with the available technology and its ability to provide business-critical communication services. Important benefits include pricing becoming more market related and globally competitive. Businesses will now be able to utilise their existing infrastructure more efficiently, and their return on investment decisions will be favourably impacted. From February next year, inefficiencies that businesses had to endure by being forced to keep data and voice traffic separate will fall away.
"As a technology company providing business solutions, we have been anticipating the regulatory shift, and are ready to bring innovative solutions to market, using our robust infrastructure and diverse skills," he concludes.
As further clarity on the minister`s announcement is obtained, IS will provide more details on its future strategy and the benefits this will yield to corporate SA.
Internet Solutions (IS) has transformed its business model and become the only full network service provider in the country.
The business was founded on the principle of developing a robust infrastructure in order for corporates to conduct e-business. Over the past decade IS has established itself as a leader in this space, attracting over 80% of SA`s top businesses as clients.
During its 10 year life span IS has evolved and grown its service offerings. Today, the company is the leading hosting service provider and security service provider in SA, as well as having significant market share in the virtual private network (VPN) and application service provider (ASP) space.
Internet Solutions has earned an impressive collection of accolades, including eight First National Bank "Most Admired" awards, Financial Mail Best Company to Work For and a place in the Top Unlisted Company Awards.
The company partners with major players such as Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle BT and AT&T and in 2002 was certified as a Cisco Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP), the first and only company outside of the US to be awarded this accolade.
