InterSystems broadens local training offering

InterSystems is expanding the scope of its local training centred on the Cach'e object and SQL-fused multidimensional database and increasing the number of classes it holds.

InterSystems in SA, which was launched in February and has offices in Gauteng, began training in March. To date, the company has successfully trained more than 100 developers and administrators. "We are at the next step in the evolution of the training and education we offer clients, customers and developers," says Nigel Salm, senior sales engineer at InterSystems SA.

"Key to the ongoing success of our South African training, and a local differentiator, is that we now offer bespoke training for software houses developing new applications or migrating existing ones using Cach'e."

Cach'e is a post-relational database for e-applications and is optimised for the demands of the Web. The database seamlessly integrates relational and object technologies to give professional developers the capabilities they most want and need: the power to build fast, scalable applications, and the productivity to build them quickly.

Salm, who has more than 17 years in the IT industry, eight of them with InterSystems, heads training locally. Until now, customers, developers and consultants have had direct access to Salm`s expertise, but this will be formalised with the new training offerings.

The company`s entry-level offering is the Entr'ee course, an introduction to Cach'e using short lectures and guided exercises to teach programmers some of the tools and techniques within the Cach'e development environment. The one-day course focuses on the object-oriented and Web development features of the database.

Next in line is the Cach'e Objects and SQL course. This involves hands-on training that walks trainees through the process of high-performance transactional application development using two of the key components provided in the Cach'e development environment, OO and SQL. Cach'e professional certification, the next and final step, can only be attained through the InterSystems training centre situated in Boston, in the US.

"The Entr'ee course is almost totally aimed at raising awareness. We want users to be aware of Cach'e and InterSystems, and the core paradigms behind Cach'e. The more advanced Cach'e Objects and SQL course, covering objects, Web, scripting and system management, will take developers to the point where they are in the best position to leverage the full potential of Cach'e`s development environment," says Salm.

The strategy behind the progression of training is to empower developers to take advantage of the comprehensive features in the Cach'e development environment. This allows them to translate their knowledge into perfectly designed applications for their customers.

"We believe that developers who are fully aware of the range of options available to them when seeking solutions for application development will build better applications, giving them the edge over their competitors.

"The bespoke training will be based on real data and real data models from the customer`s application so that we can enhance the benefit to customers," says Salm.

Training, which is currently free of charge, can be held at the client`s site or at InterSystems` Morningside, Gauteng premises.
