Dell launched the first wave of its new 12th generation servers during Q1 of 2012. Subsequent additional waves have been released, introducing additional models into the existing range of refreshed server products.
Customer-inspired design that meets the needs of small and medium-sized businesses and large data centres alike, this next generation of PowerEdge servers have the right combination of manageability, performance and scalability to address complex business challenges.
New innovations to the range include:
* Increase access for more SharePoint and Exchange users with the highly scalable PowerEdge R720xd
* Accelerate scientific results with multi-core GPU accelerators using Generation3 PCIe
* Get faster access to data using Express Flash PCIe SSD, Cachecade RAID database accelerator, select network adapter and switch-independent partitioning technologies
* Eliminate time-consuming procedures with new agent-free management capabilities
* Automate IT management tasks with iDRAC7 with Lifecycle Controller
* Control cooling costs better with new OpenManage Power Center
* Achieve faster migration of workloads in hybrid physical/virtual environments
* Boost virtualisation performance with maximised memory densities
* Server-level power management with iDRAC7 Enterprise
* Automate storage tiering inside the server chassis with PERC Cachecade, which caches frequently accessed data 'hot-spots' to SSD drives
* Hardware-enabled security innovations, which includes keeping your data safe with self-encrypting FIPS-compliant disk drives
Exciting new products, such as the EqualLogic Blade Array (PS-M4110), have also been added to the already impressive portfolio. This new array sees Dell adding shared iSCSI-based storage into its existing M1000e blade chassis, ideal for customers who want to provide compact, scalable storage solutions to an already highly dense server farm without the expense of elaborate Storage Area Networking requirements.
