Iomega Corporation, celebrating 25 years in the data storage business, has announced the release of the new credit card-sized portable Iomega Micro Mini hard drives in 4, 6 and 8 gigabyte capacities.
Bobby Kennedy, Key Account Manager for Iomega in South Africa, says the new portable hard drives set a new benchmark in robust portable storage with drop shock technology, designed to handle the inevitable bumps and dings of portable use.
"The new Iomega Micro Mini hard drive brings a new alternative to flash-based drives, offering economical high capacity and performance and outstanding portability to mobile professionals and Internet enthusiasts," he says.
The Iomega Micro Mini hard drive is a high-speed USB (USB 2.0) device that weighs less than 50 grams and has a smaller footprint than a credit card. Its 4200-RPM hard drive, protected by drop shock technology, delivers high performance in even the toughest travel environments, making it an ideal travel companion for the mobile professional.
A foldaway USB connector is built into the Micro Mini hard drive`s alloy case, eliminating the need for a separate USB cable. Power comes directly from the computer`s USB 2.0 port, so no separate power adapter is required.
"Because it is a plug and play device, the new Iomega Micro Mini hard drive goes to work right away whenever it is connected to a compatible PC," says Kennedy. "It delivers on the promise of capacity and convenient portable storage as it`s smaller than other external hard drives, provides more capability and better price per gigabyte than flash memory devices, and comes with an excellent software collection for easy backup and disaster recovery."
The Micro Mini Hard Drive ships with an Iomega Solution CD that includes the company`s Automatic Backup (Mac) software, Automatic Backup Pro (PC) software for backup and disaster recovery, MUSICMATCH Jukebox music management software (PC and Mac), and Adobe Photoshop Album SE (PC) software for digital photos.
"Iomega Automatic Backup Pro (IAB Pro) software gives users the choice of continuous real-time backup or easy scheduled backups," says Kennedy. "Users can save multiple file revisions, password-protect backups with AES file encryption, and make storage go further with up to 2.6:1 file compression on typical uncompressed office documents. IAB Pro also provides full-system backup from within Windows."
