Iomega has introduced a line of ScreenPlay HD media players in a move it says will address the complexities of managing and organising multimedia through home networks.
According to Iomega, the products are its most versatile multimedia offerings to date for consuming multimedia on the TV, without the need for a PC.
Michelle Kasselman, Iomega's key account manager in SA, says: “The new ScreenPlay HD Media Player products feature exciting new high definition capabilities, greater compatibility with the most popular media file types, an improved user interface, and wireless capabilities.”
Users can store content on the ScreenPlay's hard drive and then use an intuitive remote to play the content on their large-screen TVs, the company says.
The flagship ScreenPlay Director HD Media Player features full 1080p high definition playback at 24 frames per second, as well as up to 2TB of space.
According to Iomega, the ScreenPlay Director is also DivX Home Theatre certified, and able to play DivX video. It also supports many popular file types, including H.264, WMV and MKV.
The device is PC, Mac, and digital living network alliance compatible, for connecting and sharing files between the computers and the media player, or other compatible devices on a home network, Kasselman adds. ScreenPlay Director can be customised to play users' choice of online content, and is available in 1TB and 2TB capacities.
The media player is also WiFi-enabled, for connecting to the network wirelessly, but the USB WiFi adaptor is sold separately, states the company.
