Iomega teams up with Boxee

Iomega has partnered with Boxee to release a media centre device that enables users to stream online content and play back from local network storage devices, reports Cnet.

The Iomega TV with Boxee comes with an internal 3.5-inch hard drive with either 1TB or 2TB capacities, and can also work as a host, meaning it can stream content from its internal storage to other network players.

Iomega says the device incorporates its active folder technology that enables users to post content to online sites such as Flickr, YouTube, and Facebook.

Marvell unveils hybrid storage

Marvell showed off a hybrid storage controller that allows users to combine solid-state drives (SSDs) with hard disk drives into a single storage pool at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, states eWeek.

The storage hybrid, based on the company's HyperDuo embedded processor technology, is designed to deliver SSD benefits, such as performance and durability, to desktops and other electronic devices, notes Marvell.

Despite the performance boost, SSDs tend to have smaller storage capacity and cost more than hard disk drives, so the devices have not made a lot of headway into typical desktop PC designs.

WD rolls out Scorpio Black

Western Digital (WD) has released a 2.4-inch SATA hard drive called the WD Scorpio Black, which is said to improve a notebook's performance, says PC World.

Available in 160-, 250-, 320-, 500- and 720GB capacities with a 7200 rpm spin speed and 16MB cache, WD claims the Scorpio Black is one of the fastest drives on the market.

WD's drive uses advanced format technology (which is optimised for Mac and the latest Windows operating systems) that enables greater drive capacities and increased memory storage density.
