IONA partners with Rational to extend total business integration

IONA, Rational collaborate on integration of the Rational Unified Process and IONA`s SureTrack to turn business into e-business
Johannesburg, 20 Jun 2001

IONA, the leading E-business Platform provider for Total Business Integration, announced a global alliance with Rational Software, the e-Development Company, to expand the development capabilities of IONA`s e-Business Platform for Total Business Integration.

Both IONA and Rational Software are represented by Software Futures, a wholly owned subsidiary of MGX in SA.

IONA`s e-Business Platform for Total Business Integration enables organisations to integrate their existing enterprise applications, develop new Java- and XML-based applications, and establish B2B connections with customers, partners and suppliers via the Web.

Rational Software provides the industry`s leading requirements management, visual modelling, automated testing and configuration management products, as well as the Rational Unified Process to help organisations build high quality applications faster and more effectively. Customers utilising the two companies` products together will be developing and deploying projects with an integrated solution that addresses every aspect of the Total Business Integration lifecycle.

IONA has joined the Rational Unified Partner Program and as part of this global alliance, IONA and Rational are working together to provide solutions that simplify the development and deployment lifecycle for Total Business Integration. The first step in this business relationship will be the integration of Rational Rose and Rational ClearCase with IONA`s iPortal Application Server 3.0 - a core component of IONA`s e-business platform for Total Business Integration.

"IONA and Rational share a common vision for helping customers integrate their businesses with customers, partners and suppliers, said Themi Themistocleous of Software Futures. "The Rational Suite provides the perfect complement to the IONA e-Business Platform, and the methodologies for each offering can be used together. We`re working with both Rational and IONA to make it easier for customers to leverage these integrated solutions, and we`re delighted to announce this international alliance.

"IONA has made significant contributions to the success of the J2EE specification, and we think these new combined offerings provide an even more compelling solution for customers," said Themistocleous. "Rational provides the means to define requirements, model systems, track changes and test the quality of applications. IONA provides the platform to build Java and XML-based applications and extend integrated applications over the Web."

IONA`s Global Services will introduce and leverage the Rational Unified Process in customer application development projects. IONA is integrating the Rational Unified Process with IONA`s SureTrack Transition Program to provide a formal roadmap for the strategic adoption of component-based software and its reuse. Additionally, the Rational Unified Process will become the core of IONA`s SureTrack Develop product for building and deploying enterprise applications as part of a common, integrated enterprise architecture.
