IP Video Excellence Award for Axis

Johannesburg, 05 Jul 2005

Axis Communications, the global leader in the video over IP, has received Frost & Sullivan`s 2005 Excellence in Technology Award for the AXIS 231D and AXIS 232D Network Dome Cameras. The award is presented each year to the company that has successfully developed a technology that can affect a market in terms of adoption, change and competitive posture.

"Axis has emerged as the leading vendor of network video technology, earning itself the Excellence in Technology Award," said Frost & Sullivan research analyst Michael Valenti. "The Axis network dome cameras are unique solutions for the IP surveillance market in that they combine the features of both analogue and network-based cameras."

The AXIS 231D and AXIS 232D deliver high quality, full frame rate Motion JPEG video with remote control pan, tilt and zoom functions over an IP network (LAN or Internet). The cameras also support simultaneous MPEG-4 transmission.

Axis designed the network dome cameras using the company`s own ARTPEC-2 compression chip technology. As true dome cameras, the AXIS 231D and AXIS 232D can execute a continuous 360o pan to efficiently cover large areas and to follow moving objects. Users can preset up to 20 positions and one sequence on auto patrol tour. These features are ideal for security surveillance in airports, railway stations, prisons, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, shopping centres and school campuses.

Roy Alves, Managing Director of SCS Distribution, the exclusive Axis distributor for SA, commented: "We are absolutely delighted that Axis should be recognised in this way. Claims of market leadership are easy to make, but awards such as this one substantiate them." Alves added: "The future for video is networked digital - for flexibility, cost-effectiveness and rich functionality. We are proud to represent the acknowledged leaders in this field."

Last month, Axis was awarded the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Award for network video. Frost & Sullivan found Axis to be the definitive market leader in both the global network camera market and the global video server market. The combined worldwide network video market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 40% and reach $1.2 billion by 2010.
