iPad 2 to get Skype app

The app is currently in testing phase; however, it is expected to be introduced in the coming few weeks.

The iPad version of Skype is expected to be similar to the iPhone app released in 2009, in terms of functionality, including features like chatting and audio and video calling.

Cnet says when Apple added dual cameras to the iPad 2, it seemed inevitable that Skype would eventually bring its applications over to that platform to make use of the extra hardware.

Skype's iPad app brings video chat to owners of the first-generation Apple tablet, though only as receivers of video from the person with a camera-enabled device.

Rick Osterloh, Skype senior VP of consumer and product design, says Skype for iPad is expected to be approved soon and be released for general public, states The Mobile Indian.

iPad 2 owners will be able to make video calls over WiFi networks as well as 3G, depending on cellular operator restrictions.
