iPad suffers WiFi problems

Apple's release of its long-awaited iPad has been marred by reports that some users have experienced technical problems with the device, reports Telegraph.co.uk.

Apple sold more than 300 000 iPads on the PC tablet's first day in stores but some iPad owners have complained that their iPad has no WiFi signal.

On the day of the roll-out, Steve Jobs, Apple chief executive, says: "It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world; it's going to be a game-changer. IPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad."

Sharp develops 3D mobile screen

Sharp is set to introduce a 3D LCD screen for mobile devices without requiring viewers to wear special glasses, states Network World.

Yoshisuke Hasegawa, GM of Sharp's LCD business, says: "We are going to see a shift to 3D applications on mobile terminals.”

Sharp provides LCD panels to Nintendo for use in its DS handheld gaming console and it's expected this technology will be integrated in the upcoming Nintendo 3DS; an upgrade of the DS with a 3D screen.

Android leads smartphone growth

Google's Android operating system (OS) has soared to 9% market share from December 2009 through February 2010, buoyed by strong sales for the Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless, says eWeek.

According to ComScore, smartphone use grew 21% from December last year to February 2010, with some 45.4 million people using handsets with full HTML Web browsers in the US.

Microsoft lost 4% OS market share, which could point to where Google's 5.2% share gain came from, while Palm also lost share, dipping from 7.2% share to 5.4% within the same period.
