iPhone healthcare apps win awards
iPhoneDevCamp, a non-profit organisation that develops applications for iPhone and iPod Touch, highlighted two healthcare-related iPhone app prototypes called Nurse Brain and Chief Medical Officer, reports MobiHealthNews.
Nurse Brain, which won the 'Highest potential iPhone start-up idea' award at the event, is a “communicator for nurses to hand-off important data about patients during shift change”.
Another health-related app called Chief Medical Officer won the 'Best iPhone health app' category at the event.
Cygnos improves computing carts
Cygnus has introduced the newest addition to its product line, the NorthPort line of mobile computing carts, states ITBusinessnet.
During the research and development stage, Cygnus looked at the new cart from the eyes of the caregiver. Ease of movement, adjustable height and accessory add-ons were noted as a few of the most important features to care staff.
"We really took a fresh approach when we looked at producing a cart", said Cygnus president Robert Waugh.
Robotic healthcare on the horizon
Robotics for healthcare has been tipped as the next big wave, and Europe should be poised to ride it, according to a European road-mapping study, says ICT Results.
Bill Gates, the PC pioneer, says robots are the future. The robotics industry is developing in much the same way that the computer business did 30 years ago, he once opined in Scientific American.
And the reason for all this excitement? It's simple economics: robot helpers promise sustainable and affordable health provision without compromising on the quality of care. The attraction for authorities trying to plan for increasingly ageing societies is palpable.
