iPurse locates missing items

A team from the University of Wollongong, in Dubai, has invented a radio frequency identification (RFID) and a near field communications system capable of tracking personal belongings, NFC News reports.

The system, dubbed iPurse, tracks RFID-tagged items placed by the user in a bag or purse and alerts them when any item is missing or has been removed.

The project is under patent and has already received interest from international companies keen to roll out the invention commercially, Telecom Paper states.

iPurse can identify personal belongings such as mobile phones, cameras, laptops, keys and even cosmetics, The Gulf Today says.

It was developed by Dr Mohamed Watfa, assistant professor at the university's department of computer science and engineering, along with two students, Manprabhjot Kaur and Rashida Daruwala.
