The IQ Business Group has sold its hospital business, formerly IQ Health Tech, to Digidata for an undisclosed sum.
As part of the sale agreement, IQ will become Digidata`s systems development and technology partner for its front-end provider software.
Digidata markets, implements and services administration systems for large hospital groups.
"Hospital administration and process efficiency are rapidly gaining focus as the next wave in healthcare technology," says Nilay Naik, recently appointed joint-MD of IQ`s healthcare business.
"Our relationship with Digidata now positions us strongly to provide both the technology and process solutions needed for major hospital groups both in SA and abroad."
Following a re-examination of its management and process efficiencies, IQ`s healthcare business has emerged stronger and more agile, after the market shakeout of early last year and the knock-on effect of the break-up of Fedsure, Naik says.
"We`re in exciting times. Deals are coming through that are challenging our skill sets and our positioning as a global player. While we needed to see these type of deals in our pipeline, we have also had to take a long hard look in the mirror to see if we had the right people in the right place, to deliver the right solutions to the market.
"As a result of this self-scrutinisation, we decided that Digidata with their vast skills and experience were better positioned to take frontline healthcare solutions to market. However, by continuing to provide systems development and technology to them, we believe we have a better solution set for the front-end service provider market."
Naik says IQ`s healthcare division will retain its global focus. Two IQ executives and healthcare specialists, Andre Sharpe and Ricardo Rosa, have been sent to the US and the UK respectively, to underpin IQ`s emerging healthcare businesses in those areas.
"Good opportunities are presenting themselves in these markets." He says there are deals in the pipeline, but no announcements will be made until all the contracts have been tied up.
