Local OnStream distributor and member of the Siltek IT Supply Chain, Intelligent Systems (IS), has appointed Memtek to sub-distribute the full line of OnStream tape backup products.
According to Gerrit de la Rey, product manager at IS, the appointment was made to satisfy rapidly growing demand from Memtek`s customer base of resellers and systems integrators and to broaden the supply chain for Onstream products. "OnStream is a relatively new brand in SA and we are opening several channels to market in order to raise awareness of it," he says.
Gary Naidoo, product and technical manager at Memtek, believes the OnStream range fulfils two key roles in the Memtek portfolio. "Memtek carved out its niche as a supplier of high-end Digital Linear Tape (DLT) technology to the midrange and enterprise server markets.
"Lately we have been moving a large number of desktop products and have consequently experienced demand for reliable and cost-effective entry-level backup solutions. In addition, and a s a distributor of hard disk drives, it is in our interest to help our customers protect their data with backups. In both cases, OnStream fits the bill admirably."
De la Rey confirms this positioning and says that the OnStream brand, although new to this country, is making great strides in Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. "People are becoming more aware of the real costs involved in technology purchases and are therefore more discerning about what technology and products they invest in.
