Through its distribution agreement with OnStream, removable storage solutions provider and member of the Siltek IT Supply Chain, Intelligent Systems (IS), has announced a removable storage solution for Macintosh computers that offers performance, reliability, affordability and simplicity of use.
According to Gerhard Grundlingh, product manager at IS, the new drive is result of collaboration between OnStream and US-base Dantz Development, a leader in backup applications for the Macintosh. "Combining a stock-standard external SCSI Echo 30GB with Dantz Retrospect software brings mass storage to the Mac environment with a price-to-capacity ratio exceeding all other solutions on the market," he says.
"With native transfer rates of up to 2MB/second, the OnStream Echo 30GB drive provides Apple PowerMac, G3 and G4 users affordable, high performance and reliable backups."
Also available for the Windows platform, Dantz Retrospect software can be downloaded from the Dantz Store on the World-Wide Web (www.dantz.com). Its EasyScript feature allows users to schedule automatic backups after-hours.
It offers verification, a process by which original files are reread and compared to the backed up files, byte for byte, to ensure the highest levels of data integrity.
The software also provides incremental backup functionality that allows users to perform backups to multiple complete cartridge sets for added security and to save time and media.
