Rolling Meadows, Illionois, USA, 29 Jan 2007

The non-profit, independent IT Governance Institute (ITGI) will offer an advance look at COBIT updates and upcoming COBIT publications during the ISACA e-Symposium on 30 January 2007. The three-hour event will begin at 11am EST.

COBIT 4.1 will be publicly available in March, but e-Symposium attendees will receive an advance draft version of the executive summary and framework (still in development).

Presenters of the COBIT 4.1 e-Symposium include Gary Hardy, advisor to the IT Governance Institute and director of ITWinners; Roger Debreceny, chair of the COBIT Steering Committee and professor at the University of Hawaii; Jimmy Heschl, senior manager at KPMG Austria; and Debbie Lew, senior manager at Ernst & Young.

ISACA e-symposia are available at no cost to ISACA members and provide attendees with three continuing professional education (CPE) hours. Non-members are invited to attend the January e-Symposium at no charge. To register for the January e-Symposium or to view previous archived e-symposia, please visit www.isaca.org/webcasts.

Updates from COBIT 4.0 to 4.1 include:

* An enhanced executive overview.
* Explanation of goals and metrics in the framework section.
* Better definitions of the core concepts, with the definition of a control objective shifting more toward a management practice statement.
* Improved control objectives resulting from updated control practices and Val IT, and some renumbering of the control objectives.
* Fewer, but more effective and more detailed, application controls.
* Improved business goals and IT goals, based on new insights obtained during validation research.
* An expansion to the pull-out, providing a quick reference list of the COBIT processes.
* The incorporation of improvements identified by COBIT users.
