Iscor standardises on SQR for production reports

Johannesburg, 25 Aug 1998

Iscor Profile Products, Newcastle Works, has standardised on SQR, the reporting software from SQRibe, as the engine for its production reports. Operating in a client/server environment, SQR, supplied by Abraxas Software, provides reports of the same complexity and robustness as Iscor`s mainframe-based systems had been able to do.

Marcel Groenewaldt, a software specialist in the Newcastle IT department, says: "We were looking for a tool robust enough to produce high-volume, complex batch reports. It had to be able to distribute to several printers at once, and to support up to 400 users.

"After reviewing several reporting options, we chose SQR, not least for its Oracle/Unix support."

Danie de Jager, director: software, of JSE-listed Abraxas, says: "SQR is a database enhancement application centred on a 4GL reporting language. It has been designed for portability across databases from different vendors and across computing platforms. It`s valuable when used in a multi-database environment or with a single database, such as Oracle, as is the case at Iscor`s Newcastle plant.

"Beyond its ability to operate across multiple environments, SQR`s power comes from its report design flexibility and its raw reporting performance," he says. "Using the SQR language, an SQR user can design a report of limitless complexity. SQR provides the user with total control of the reporting process."

Groenewaldt adds: "This strength has been invaluable to us. We`ve found SQR to be very adaptable. Training is easy, with users up and running in a day.

"We`ve developed APIs that allow seamless integration of report options into applications. This allows users to call for reports from the applications they are working in.

"We`ve been able to customise the SQR environment to our exact needs," adds Groenewaldt. "This is because SQR allows you to work the way you want to."
