Integrated service management (ISM) is going to be fundamental to the breakthroughs that will begin to change both business and personal technological developments, says IBM.
Speaking at the IBM Pulse 2010 conference, in Las Vegas, senior VP of IBM software solutions group Michael Rhodin said collaboration had become increasingly important in the changing landscape.
He added that, in anticipation of changes in the sector, IBM is stepping up its capabilities to help better position it in the market. Changes would see the company cater for more than the data centre and introduce solutions, which would help companies manage the entire service lifecycle.
Rhodin said the company has already introduced its smarter planet initiative using today's capabilities to help manage infrastructure, and connect and create intelligent companies, organisations and cities.
IBM also announced its enhanced strategy to help clients maximise the benefits of virtualisation with integrated service management, by focusing on four key priorities: consolidation, management, automation and optimised delivery.
This strategy is based on a view of data centre virtualisation, which includes servers, storage, networking, software and services. It also looks to take advantage of the expected worldwide revenue for virtualisation-related ecosystems in the next three years.
Creating possibilities
Rhodin noted that, while increasing complexity and the difficulty of controlling and managing environments means it is complicated for companies to keep all their processes under control, the changing economic environment means business cannot be content with just optimisation.
He added that companies are looking to change their game, to outfight competitors, redefine the industry and innovate.
Collaboration will improve efficiency, organisations will have to adapt more efficiently to become more agile as systems become intelligent and respond to changes quickly.
“An important element of this is how you're going to optimise your infrastructure to manage both your IT and business services, leading to savings and efficiencies and, just as important, new possibilities.”
Rhodin commented that IBM will continue to introduce additional hardware, software and services to help clients maximise the potential benefits of ISM.
