Global networking and e-services group Datatec has agreed to the purchase of a majority share in its training arm, IT-IQ, by a management consortium headed by MD John Ramsey. The deal is effective from 29 February.
According to Dave Lello, COO of Datatec SA, the company believes that technology training no longer falls within its key focus.
"Like any other successful group, Datatec is constantly reviewing and revising its composition and strategy. It is apparent to us that while technology training continues to enjoy increased demand especially in SA, it no longer falls within our key focus.
"We are pleased to be able to effectively outsource this side of our operations to IT-IQ. We will retain an equity stake in IT-IQ, which will now be a Datatec associate company. This will allow Datatec`s operating divisions to continue to offer complete IT solutions - including the often-crucial training element provided by IT-IQ - while concentrating on their own core competencies.
"We are confident that with the leadership of John Ramsey and the assistance of his management team, IT-IQ will provide a positive contribution to the Datatec group," says Lello.
"IT-IQ is now recognised as the leading technology education group in SA," says Ramsey. "It is unique in its status as the only Microsoft Training Partner covering the entire EMEA (comprising the whole of Europe, Middle East and Africa), one of only two Novell Authorised Education Centres in SA, the only Lucent Authorised Training Centre in Africa, and the largest online exam certification centre in Africa.
"We will continue to grow the IT-IQ brand with the same successful formula - providing quality cost-effective people development in the information technology arena."
