IT project management training reaches new heights with DiData

Johannesburg, 30 Jan 2001

Dimension Learning Solutions (DDLS) has introduced an IT project management course designed to familiarise learners with the competencies they require for successful IT project management.

This is the first time such a course is available in SA and has been made possible through the consolidation of various training companies owned by Dimension .

Laura Korevaar, training manager at DDLS in Durban, says that DDLS is positioned to provide customers with strategic people development solutions to help them attract, develop and retain their human IT capital.

"DDLS incorporates various group training companies - Comtech Educational Services (Australia), Training Partners (Asia), Netbrain (Belgium) and Dimension Germany (formally Telemation) - which has enabled us to establish a global development company focused on the Internet, data networking and software development that builds relevant technical, sales and soft skills.

"The global development model is one of high-end customer solutions and value - in contrast to the conventional "bums on seats" model currently adopted by most training companies.

"One of the first courses we are offering following this consolidation is the IT project management course. A passing score on the exam awards the candidate a Gartner Certified Associate (GSA) in IT project management that is valid for two years," she explains.

Prerequisites for the course include previous experience in an IT project-intensive environment or in managing IT projects. It`s also beneficial for junior IT project managers with some experience but without formal project management education.

It familiarises the learner with the three competencies necessary for successful IT project management - business knowledge, interpersonal skills and project management processes. The course focuses the learner on developing skills in scope definition, planning, execution and closure.

"Success as an IT project manager depends on the ability to define, plan, organise, control and complete a variety of complex and interdependent tasks using a finite set of resources," says Korevaar.

This course focuses on the development of the critical business skills, techniques and project management methods and processes that are necessary for successful project management.

She adds that candidates learn the competencies and processes required for project success reducing exposure to project failure, delays and cost overrun.

"They achieve the Gartner standard which is globally recognised in the IT industry as high quality and leading edge," she concludes.
