Colleges must use technology to collect and analyse student in order to promote effective learning, reports FE News.

Speaking at Inmarsat's London headquarters, minister for lifelong learning, further and higher , Bill Rammell MP, stressed the growing importance of technology at a specialised event organised by the Centre for Excellence in Leadership.

"As most of the 2020 workforce has already left formal education, achievement of this vision demands a revolutionary approach to learning and teaching," he said.

Oman takes big leap in e-learning

A new dimension has been added to the concept of e-learning in Oman with the introduction for the first time of a facility that enables users to choose from hundreds of electronic training courses that are specially designed to cater for the region's labour market requirements, reports Khaleej Times.

The Easy Learning , the result of a tie-up between two of the top telecommunications firms in the Sultanate and the UAE, Omantel and Etisalat, provides learners access to e-training programmes through prepaid Omantel 'learning' cards.

Users can visit the Omantel Web site, register and select the courses that suit their needs from among more than 600 programmes in various specialisations including administrative sciences, accounting, marketing, sales, supervision skills and customer service.

Harbinger ties up with US firm

India-based Harbinger Group, a global provider of software products and services, has teamed up with the US-based GeoLearning, a provider of managed learning services.

The alliance will allow Harbinger to bundle its technology for interactive content creation with GeoLearning's learning and performance management offerings, says Pune Newsline.

In January 2006, Harbinger launched the Raptivity software, a rapid interactivity builder for e-learning. The other players in this space are Articulate Engage, Respondus Studymate and Intiva.
