The Information Technology Association (ITA) is calling for people to serve on its e-waste sub-committee.
The committee serves as the ITA`s strategy arm for matters relating to e-waste management and serves to create a self-regulating framework for the ICT industry.
The sub-committee is divided into eight portfolio committees, each with specific tasks and responsibilities. The portfolio committees are:
1) Policy and legislation: responsible for the analysis of national legislation, evaluation of approaches and creating recommendations.
2) R&D: responsible for researching the local e-waste situation in SA, as well as best-practice models.
3) Re-use: responsible for the development of relevant re-use and refurbishment systems.
4) Recycling technology and skills development: responsible for performing regular evaluations on the recycling chain and supporting the creation of roadmaps and strategies of the ITA e-waste business model.
5) Business financing: responsible for investigating, negotiating and implementing financing mechanisms.
6) Marketing, awareness creation and education: responsible for increasing government, public, scientific, and business awareness of the e-waste challenge.
7) Certification and auditing: responsible for the creation of a format ITA "Recycling Guarantee" certification process.
8) Other industries: responsible for co-ordinating other industry associations affected by e-waste, such as household appliances and office equipment.
The next meeting of the e-waste committee will be on 6 December and people are invited to nominate themselves or members of their organisations to serve on the committee.
