The Open Group's IT Architect Certification (ITAC) is now available in SA, facilitated by Real IRM, the local representative of The Open Group.

Real IRM has had success with a previous certification, The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), having trained and certified more than 300 enterprise architects, it says.

"ITAC provides a vital underpinning for any IT architect," says Paul van der Merwe, consulting manager at Real IRM. "It is the only certification of its sort which is entirely vendor-neutral, global in its application and standards, and totally portable, as it will be recognised by all employers.

"Through this highly credible certification, The Open Group is helping to grow the discipline of enterprise architecture in SA."

The ITAC certification has three levels: certified IT architect, master IT architect, and distinguished IT architect.

The process of certification begins when the architect fulfils the base requirements. Candidates are then submitted for review to The Open Group, followed by board interviews and board approval or resubmission for further work. This is repeated every three years.

There are approximately 2 100 certified IT architects worldwide and SA has 10% of the world's TOGAF-certified enterprise architects.
