Masterpiece/Net will be used to train students in the classroom interBiz, the eBusiness applications division of Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), has announced that Luiss Guido Carli, an independent university in Rome, and Luiss Management, a school for business management, have chosen Masterpiece/Net as their financial management solution. The educational institutions will also use the application as a teaching tool in the financial management classes they offer.
When considering a financial management solution, Luiss Guido Carli and Luiss Management sought an enterprise financial management solution that would enable their businesses to keep pace with future developments in the technological field. "We aimed to switch over to a statutory management system, and Masterpiece/Net met all of our requirements," says Francesco Caramazza, vice managing director at Luiss Guido Carli. "At the same time, Masterpiece/Net will assist in updating our management control system by introducing analytical accounting and responsibility centers, monitoring and managing workflows, and integrating the system with standard tools," he said.
Luiss Management had the additional requirement of offering its students use of a comprehensive financial management solution. "It was also important to provide our students, many of whom are already active in businesses, access to a flexible solution that can be integrated with all standard tools," said Maurizio Tarquini, managing director of Luiss Management.
However, despite their comparable setups, both Luiss Guido Carli and Luiss Management have quite different accounting needs. Luiss Guido Carli is an institution that manages various kinds of payments such as professors` payrolls which can differ widely because they depend on the number of the enrolled students. Some courses are held independently of the number of attendees; management control focuses on the ratio between the course cost and the number of students who pay for it.
Luiss Management is organized like a consulting agency; most employees are paid according to their consulting activities, which are carried out according to the clients` needs and requests.
Masterpiece/Net`s ability to accommodate the demanding and unique requirements of both these businesses is testament to its flexibility and functionality.
"Masterpiece/Net enables these two educational institutions to reduce the time they take to accomplish different tasks and optimize organization and control," said Patrizio Patrizii Bernardi, country manager for interBiz Financial Group in Italy. "As a scalable and multi-platform solution, Masterpiece/Net can be tailored according to the evolving needs of the business."
Among the available Masterpiece/Net modules, Luiss Guido Carli and Luiss Management adopted General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Job Cost, Fund Accounting, Fixed Assets and Purchasing. The two institutions also will leverage Masterpiece/Net ACE (Application Customization Environment), a flexible toolkit that allows users to access financial data through standard desktop tools of their choice, speed up processes and free time for training. They also will implement Business Process Flow, a workflow management tool that automates business process activities and controls. Masterpiece/Net will be run on a Windows NT platform with the CA-Ingres database.
Masterpiece/Net is a comprehensive, Web-enabled enterprise financial management solution accommodating the multi-organizational, multinational and multicurrency needs of thousands of organizations worldwide. Masterpiece/Net was the first financial application to obtain 100% Pure Java certification from Sun Microsystems, providing the flexibility needed where financial responsibilities are disseminated across large numbers of employees. Masterpiece/Net includes expanded Euro functionality; Masterpiece/Net Release 1.2 has received the BASDA EMU Accreditation from Ernst & Young, The Netherlands, for multicurrency conversion and triangulation.
