LG Electronics has launched its first portable combo-drives into the South African market. The GCC-5240P and GCC-5241P will strengthen LG`s current position as the global digital leader in the optical storage segment.
Designed for laptops, the new GCC-5240P/ GCC-5241P portable combo-drives operate at speeds of 24x CD-R write, 10x CD-RW write, 24x CD read and 8x DVD read.
Boasting dimensions of 160mm x 135mm x 20mm, the drive is small enough to place in a notebook bag or briefcase. The GCC-5240P operates with notebook or desktop PCs which have a PC Card (PCMCIA) slot. The GCC-5241P connects via a USB cable. It can be powered by the included AC Adaptor or directly from the computer`s PC Card slot, for truly portable use.
"This drive is especially useful for those without built-in CD writers where the user needs the flexibility of a portable device. Its launch comes as a result of LG`s commitment to meeting all customer needs and fulfilling all niche segments in the optical storage sector," said JH Kim, IT Products manager at LG Electronics South Africa.
The new CD-RW features LG`s `Losslink` 2Mb buffer under-run prevention technology, ensuring error-free writing, every time.
The GCC-5240P package comes supplied with a PCIMA card, interface cable and AC adaptor together with authoring software for CD recording and DVD playback. The GCC-5241P comes with a USB cable.
LG currently leads the optical storage sector in the Middle East and Africa with sales in the first half of this year growing a whopping 69% to deliver a turnover of $22 million.
"The continuing launch of leading-edge products is a key element in our strategy to maintain this commanding position," said Kim.
