ITWeb's fifth annual Golf Day, held on 4 March, raised R100 000 for charity. This makes a total of R454 700 that the event has raised since it started in 2004.
This year's event was, once again, sponsored by Softline and took place at the Pecanwood Golf Estate. The day afforded participants the opportunity to network and relax, while contributing generously to charity.
Every year, the proceeds from the event have been donated to a charitable organisation to use in uplifting the community. This year is no different and ITWeb, after a rigours selection process, chose the Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (CAAC).
Located at the University of Pretoria, the centre's motto is: "Just because you cannot speak, does not mean you have nothing to say".
"The organisation provides children and adults who are unable to speak with a means to express themselves, in order to facilitate their inclusion into society," says Professor Erna Alant, director of the CAAC.
These solutions include the use of low- and hi-tech communication strategies to ensure active participation in a variety of life activities, she adds.
ITWeb says the donation from the 2008 Golf Day celebration will, through the use of IT systems, help CAAC to assist these people to reach their full potential and enable them to stand up and take their place in society.
