JD Edwards back in black

Johannesburg, 13 Mar 2003

Enterprise software group JD Edwards` South African office says it is experiencing its strongest demand yet.

The US-headquartered group has reported a turnaround in the first quarter to 31 January, with net income of $6.5 million or $0.05 a share compared with a net loss of $4.13 million or $0.04 a share in the same quarter last year.

Total revenue was marginally up at $205.93 million from $204.67 million a year earlier. Cash and equivalents grew from $302.83 million to $344.33 million.

"Our profitability increased significantly and exceeded expectations," says chairman, president and CEO Bob Dutkowsky. "In fact, our net income was the highest level for any first quarter in our company history."

He says the results were achieved by a continuing focus on improving the group`s execution across all its functional areas.

Mike Evans, MD of JD Edwards SA, says the company has also continued to secure new contracts despite the market`s perception that enterprise resource planning as a core business is either dead or dying.

"In SA we are experiencing our strongest demand ever," he says. "We have signed significant new deals and our pipeline is stronger than it has ever been before."

He says there is also significant interest in the group`s integrated offerings, and the already high demand is expected to be increased with the release of JD Edwards CRM 2.0.
