JD Edwards slashes ERP installation time with three IBM bundles

Johannesburg, 26 Feb 2003

JD Edwards, an international vendor of enterprise, supply chain and supply chain management solutions, has announced three new software and services solution bundles that will enable companies to install JD Edwards 5 collaborative enterprise software up to 50% faster on the IBM eServer iSeries platform.

JD Edwards 5 augments the company`s open architecture offerings, blending JD Edwards 5 collaborative enterprise software with the company`s business process templates to help companies maximise business performance improvements while minimising IT, operations and implementation costs.

JD Edwards 5 single-server solution bundles for manufacturing, distribution and financials include:

* Pre-configured technical setup, delivering up to 50% time savings;

* Collaborative computing in a single-server environment; and

* Tailored consulting and education services for rapid time to value for customers.

"Mid-market companies worldwide have strong requirements for collaborative enterprise software, but often they lack the resources to deploy the applications," says Dave McDonald, Solutions Consulting manager at JD Edwards South Africa. "The new JD Edwards 5 solution bundles for iSeries work the way our customers want them to. They can be installed in nearly half the time, with pre-configured technical setups that eliminate configuration errors. These bundles also can take full advantage of IBM`s new Capacity Upgrade on Demand, so customers can grow their IT solutions at the pace they want."

JD Edwards 5 Supply Chain Management (SCM) and ERP products leverage IBM eServer iSeries` Temporary and Permanent Capacity Upgrade on Demand, ensuring no loss of application software and system availability as the iSeries automatically adds additional processing power to meet increasing workloads.

"Our mid-market customers are asking for easy-to-deploy and flexible e-business solutions," says Al Zollar, GM, IBM eServer iSeries. "The existing open architecture solutions in JD Edwards 5 will be augmented by IBM`s Temporary Capacity Upgrade on Demand technology, delivering more value to our customers."

IBM`s Temporary Capacity Upgrade on Demand technology allows customers to activate one or more central processors of an IBM eServer iSeries when they need them, and turn them off when they don`t. iSeries customers can choose from Temporary or Permanent Capacity Upgrade on Demand options and have the ability to add capacity in increments of one processor, up to the maximum number of standby processors for that platform. The ability to activate additional processors as a company`s needs grow has value for customers who want to add new workloads economically on the same server footprint.

The JD Edwards 5 software and services solution bundles for manufacturing, distribution and financials are planned for general availability on the iSeries platform in March, with other supported technology platforms planned for roll-out in quarters three and four.
