Jiefang Daily goes green
Agfa Graphics says the Jiefang Daily Printing Centre in Shanghai is the first newspaper printer in China to use Agfa Graphics' N92-VCF printing plates, reports Graphic Repro.
According to Agfa, its violet chemistry-free plate technology means Jiefang Daily will make great progress in its aim for eco-friendly print production.
Zhang Xiaoming, GM of Jiefang Daily, comments: “Agfa's N92-VCF truly is an eco-plate... It has a good imaging resolution, excellent dot reproduction, and a better ink-water balance that helps shorten make-ready time.”
3D printing to advance flight tech
Students in the Department of Aerospace Engineering are using hi-tech 3D printers for a wide range of US Army-funded projects, including the analysis of alternate modes of flight for potential military applications, according to ThomasNet News.
After examining how insects avoid obstacles during flight, the department employed Objet's 3D printing technology to design and manufacture the first structure used aboard small helicopters that allow sensors to test for close obstacle avoidance.
3D printing, also known as rapid prototyping, transforms computer-generated images into solid models. This allows engineers to create identical prototypes for multiple experiments faster than ever before - dramatically improving the viability of test results, reducing errors and speeding up the process.
Epson intros home projector
Digital imaging and printing solutions provider Epson has released the EH-DM3 home projector, says ChannelTimes.
This projector represents the latest generation of Epson's 'home-theatre-in-a-box' models that integrate a DVD player and speakers into the projector's body, providing a cinema experience without the need for any further device to be attached or turned on.
According to Epson, the projector features smoother image reproduction with 3LCD technology. The company's proprietary 3LCD technology offers full-time colour projection with three separate LCD panels (red, green and blue), ensuring smooth projection of image without colour breakup.
