Online recruitment sites Jobfood.com and CareerJunction have reached a settlement in their screen scraping dispute. CareerJunction alleged that Jobfood had lifted recruitment advertisements from the site in breach of copyright.

In a joint statement issued today, the companies said they had reached a settlement and that CareerJunction also accepted that Jobfood did not intend any harm to CareerJunction or its clients. It added that there would be no further proceedings between them regarding the issue.

The dispute arose late last month, when CareerJunction demanded that Jobfood remove all advertisements that it had allegedly copied from the CareerJunction site. Jobfood removed around 1 800 advertisements from its listings in response, saying at the time it did so as a gesture of goodwill.

CareerJunction believed that Jobfood had used so-called "screen scraping" techniques to capture information about job listings from its site, in order to boost the number of jobs available on Jobfood.com.

Jobfood MD Ephan Bosman says the matter is now settled to the satisfaction of both parties. In response to claims that Jobfood.com retrenched staff due to the dispute, Bosman says any staff changes that took place within the company recently were normal staff turnover in the usual nature of business.

At the time of the initial CareerJunction allegation, Bosman said there had been no copyright infringement. "Not a single position on the Jobfood.com site bears any relationship to a position carried on CareerJunction," he said.
