Jobs hints on iPhone 5, iPad 2

The upcoming iPhone 5 and iPad 2 could possibly be 4G Pro models, Steve Jobs hinted at an iPad Pro during an earnings call last year, says Infosync World.

When the upcoming iPhone 5 and iPad 2 hit store shelves at some point later this year, they may join the iPhone 4 and original iPad rather than replacing them. Steve Jobs last year hinted at an iPad Pro model during Apple's Q4 2010 earnings call.

The QXGA screen that the iPad 2 seems to be sporting, can only be described as an industry-grade display that would be perfect for an iPad Pro model.

Disney unveils 3D Android phone

Disney Mobile (MVNO in Japan) revealed the upcoming unveiling of its first smartphone, reports Unwired View.

Available to Japanese customers starting next month, the smartphone is based on Android 2.2 Froyo and seems to be a Disney-branded version of the Sharp 003SH.

The Disney Android phone features a 3.8-inch WVGA 3D touchscreen display, 9.6MP camera, HD video recording, 1GHz processor, and exclusive Disney content and services (including a Disney e-mail address).

Tablets ease netbook pain

After a massive pre-Christmas sales spike, tablets were the king of the small form factor jungle in December, with netbook sales through European distributors on the wane, states CRN.

Figures from market-watcher Context reveal that the seven days before Christmas saw a 68.7% week-on-week increase in the number of tablets being sold through in Europe. The miniature devices accounted for some 5.6% of total PCs shipped and 5.8% of revenues.

Apple's iPad was by far and away the most popular model, accounting for more than four in every five tablets sold. The device posted a week-on-week sales surge of 71.2% in the lead-up to Christmas. Across the whole of December, unit shipments rose 4.8% on the previous month.
