Jo`burg plans multimillion-rand call centre

The City of Johannesburg plans to construct a new management centre and call centre, and has issued a request for interested parties to assist in the design and planning.

A request for proposals (RFP), re-advertised recently, explains the city wishes to appoint a team of consultants (project managers, quantity surveyors, architects, and mechanical and electronic engineers) to supervise the construction of the new centres.

"This tender is looking for a professional team, to investigate what is required, and to propose and design the centres," says project manager Rod Pearce.

A request for tenders (RFT) - inviting companies to submit bids for the project`s construction - will likely be advertised in about the middle of next year, and may be split up into different components, adds Pearce.

The centres will be situated in an existing building at the Johannesburg Metro Police Department head office in Martindale, Johannesburg.

Pearce is unable to determine how many people will be employed once the projects have been completed, or to predict the value of the tender. However, he says the cost will definitely run into the millions, but is unlikely to exceed R50 million.

The RFP states there will be "an extensive investigation into communications and surveillance technology".
