Johnnic Communications (Johncom) is restructuring its operations into six business units, each with its own CEO.
In the past, Johncom consisted of three separate divisions: publishing, entertainment and digital.
CEO Connie Malusi says the structure represented a silo approach from which the group is now departing to build a single, integrated structure.
The group`s operations have now been clustered into six business units, each with its own CEO: media (headed by Mike Robertson), music (Charles Kuhn), home entertainment (Fay Ischner), retailing (Fred Withers), books and maps (Brian Wootton) and Africa.
A CEO for the Africa unit, tasked with driving the group`s expansion plans, is still to be appointed.
The operations of the former digital division are now included in the media unit.
Johncom will be led by Malusi as CEO, Prakash Desai as group financial and operations director, Paul Jenkins as group corporate and business affairs director and Neil Jacobsohn as group marketing director.
Jacobsohn was formerly CEO of the digital division while Jenkins was the entertainment division`s CEO.
"This is not an overnight decision," Malusi says. "We have walked a long and careful path to reach this point."
He says the group`s direction was set last year when the board approved a new vision - "to be an integrated media and entertainment group that is globally competitive and dominant in the African continent".
