Johnnic, Dimension Data and Adcorp join forces to create the largest Internet recruitment portal Media, entertainment and telecommunications giant Johnnic announced today it had joined forces with Adcorp Holdings, SA`s top recruitment company, and technology group Dimension Data to create the country`s largest Internet recruitment portal.
Johnnic e-Ventures, (JeV) the Internet arm of the Johnnic group, has bought 51% of the web business CareerJunction.co.za for R3.8-million. The existing shareholders, Adcorp, Didata and management, have diluted to enable the transaction.
JeV chief executive Neil Jacobsohn said the goal of the newly constituted CareerJunction was simple: "We intend to turn CareerJunction into the top Internet recruitment site in South Africa."
Critical was that the site would join the "old" and "new" economy by integrating the interactivity of the Internet with the existing print reach of major publications in the Johnnic stable, in particular the Sunday Times.
The new CareerJunction site will aggregate the printed jobs advertised in key TML publications, the Sunday Times and Computing SA, with the existing online jobs available on CareerJunction.co.za, as well as jobs on Ananzi, SA`s leading Internet search engine. Ananzi is owned by Johnnic e-Ventures.
In addition, BDFM Publications - owned 50% by Johnnic subsidiary TML - will integrate its printed job ads in Business Day and the Financial Mail into the CareerJunction portal. "This adds the leading business publications to the mix," said Jacobsohn.
"This is an important breakthrough for job seekers, employers and recruitment agencies in SA," said Jacobsohn. "It`s a meeting of the giants in recruitment in SA. By focusing both the print and online efforts of the organizations, we will deliver value and depth to the recruitment market not yet seen in SA.
"The involvement of the Sunday Times, which is SA`s largest jobs market, is particularly powerful. Plus Computing SA is the major player in the critical IT jobs arena."
Adcorp - which is currently the Sunday Times Top Company of the Year - is the premier recruitment company in SA. Adcorp Group CEO Henri Staal said: "We see enormous advantages in the linking of traditional and electronic media. This combination can provide the keys to success on the Internet - marketing, content and technology.
Staal said that of the traditional media, print in particular had the content and vehicles to effectively market Internet sites. " Adcorp Holdings will provide recruitment content and expertise from its staffing companies and RGI, the management of CareerJunction, delivers a proven and successful e-commerce site".
Sunday Times Publisher Brian Pottinger said the existing Sunday Times "Big Break" jobs website would be merged into the new enterprise. "The Sunday Times will divert all its online recruitment focus into this new venture. This is an important step for the Sunday Times in growing its online presence" Kris Jarzebowski, MD of CareerJunction, said the new site would be the first time in SA that media channels for recruitment would be properly mixed. "By combining online with print, we are implementing a model that even giants like America Online (AOL) and Time Warner have embraced, with their merger."
The third dimension, made possible by the Internet, was the capacity to complete the actual transaction online, he said. "We will deliver new levels of speed, ease and efficiency to employers, job seekers and recruitment agencies."
Jacobsohn said the acquisition is in line with the Johnnic e-Ventures goal to focus on the business-to-business (B2B) market, while at the same time serving consumer interests in the business-to-consumer (B2C) space.
